The Jindal Arts Centre of the National Centre for the Performing Arts organizes a series of workshops to promote art and culture that aims to provide participants with a new understanding of art and artists starting from October 2007.

The first of the series is an exciting workshop that aims to provide young children and youth with exposure to a premiere quality of performing arts. The "sing-a-long" sessions will celebrate the history of the Indian Independence movement through music. Through specially selected songs, they will: make the participants aware of the variety and diversity of Indian music by teaching them compositions from different genres; show the participants that music is a way of protesting or of spreading a social or a political message; introduce concepts such as taal, raag, badhat etc through the songs; look at specific historic events through verse and song; introduce the participants to composers, lyricists/poets, singers, musicians beyond the 'celebrity musicians' currently seen on television and the media. The workshop will culminate in a presentation by the students in the Little Theatre - giving their parents and friends a chance to appreciate the children's newly developed skills. |

Music and the Independence movement would be rendered by Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan from 28th October to 2nd November from 3.30pm to 5.30pm daily.
