JSW Aluminum is a Rs. 9000 core foray to set up a 1.4 mtpa Alumina refinery and 4.2 mtpa Aluminum Smelter in Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh for production of Alumina and metal. The land for the proposed project site has been identified in 5 villages.
The bauxite mines for the proposed 1.4MTPA, Alumina Refinery at Srungavarapukota, Vijayanagaram district are also located at Araku and Anantagiri mandals in the tribal belt of Visakapatnam district.
Demographic profile
A majority of the villagers hail from the backward community and the remaining belong to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. Villagers are mostly engaged in agriculture and allied activities. Some supplement their earnings from non-farming work as daily wage earners.

Education
On the eve of 62nd Independence Day Celebrations, Competitions for children in Government Schools around the plant site were organized. JSW sponsored prizes for the Navodaya School children on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations at the school.
Health
Inspite of the Governmentâs efforts to provide health services in tribal areas, the access to these services is limited due to the terrain and distance from the Primary Health Centers. The tribals even today depend on the local treatment which many a times become a life threatening. Keeping this in view, we have initiated Mobile health services in and around our proposed mining areas. At present these two mobile health units cater to the health needs in 90 villages and provide free medicine. Each mobile health unit visits at least 3-4 villages daily along with the medical staff of a doctor and para staff.

Two Malaria camps were taken up in Cherukumadatha (as requested by the local MLA) and Konapuram villages in Anantagiri mandal. A total of 206 patients attended the camp and 16 were treated for malaria. Five General Medical camp at Valasi and Borra villages of Anantagiri mandal, Ammapalem village in S Kota mandal and Sunnametta and Sovva villages in Araku mandal were organized. A total of 412 patients attended the camps. We were able to mobilize Rs 36,000/- worth of diagnostic kits and medicines from Nicholas Pirimal Pharmaceuticals for the diabetic and neurology camp.
Sports JSW sponsored prizes for the Navodaya School children on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations at the school. Rs. 15,000 worth of Cricket kits sponsored for 8 teams of Araku / Ananthagiri youth. Also cricket tournaments are conducted. Livelihood
Three Tailoring Training Centers have been set up at different locations in Araku and Ananthagiri mandals to provide skill training to the tribal women. Each center is being attended by 75 trainees on an average. A local trainer takes care of these centers. We provide the basic material required for the trainees as per requirement.
Picnic trips for tailoring centers at Anantagiri and Sunkarametta are organized and a total of 104 trainees participate.
As a part of R & R package for land losers, a total of 108 trainees from land losers are sent for industry job oriented training and horticulture.
